THE RUSSIANS ARE COMING

By DAVE VEITCH

The Soviet Union’s most popular rock band is coming to Calgary – possibly as an act for the Rock Spectacular at the Olympic Saddledome.

An official at the Soviet Embassy in Ottawa confirmed the group, Autograph, is arriving in Canada in late January.

A series of concert dates are planned.

He added: “They are planning to visit Calgary as well.”

He could not place a date for the Calgary appearance. “We haven’t been informed from Moscow when they will be here.”

Olympic Arts Festival publicity co-ordinator Roz Gray neither confirmed nor denied Autograph’s participation in the Rock Spectacular or any aspect of the festival.

The Spectacular is two weeks away and no acts have been announced.

Gray denies the date of the concert may be changed to accommodate prospective acts.

“We are not changing the date.”
